This colorful, unique necklace is a great way to provide a visual example of number sequences.

Prep Time: About 1 hour
What you need:
 Paper and pencil
Calculator
Tape
Elastic beading thread
Pony beads in several colors
Seasons: Year round
Materials: beads, string
Instructions:
1.Have your child experiment with a few different number sequences by writing them down on paper. For a medium-length necklace, the sequence should include 8 to 10 numbers that add up to between 125 and 160. One of our favorites is the Fibonacci sequence ( click here for more on Fibonacci numbers). For inspiration, you'll also find a few possible patterns listed below.
2.Next, your child needs to figure out how many bead colors to use. To do this, he should divide the number of numbers in his favorite sequence by a number that comes out evenly. This ensures that you end the necklace with a different color than the one you started with. If there are 8 numbers in your child's sequence, for instance, he could use 2, 4, or 8 different colors.
3.Stick tape to one end of the elastic thread to keep the beads from falling off when he strings them.
4.Now it's time to thread on beads, changing the color for each number in the sequence. For the Fibonacci sequence, you could string on 1 blue bead, 1 orange bead, 2 green beads, 3 pink beads, 5 yellow beads, 8 blue beads, 13 orange beads, 21 green beads, 34 pink beads, and finish with 55 yellow beads.
5.Remove the tape, tightly tie together the thread ends, trim them, and the necklace is ready to wear.
