What's a Nakeeshka?

Posted March 08, 2008

The kids and I recently watched "Just Desserts", an episode of Cory in the House on the Disney Channel. Cory in the House is about the son of the head chef at the White House and all his mishaps and fun with his two best friends, Meena and Newt. In this episode, Meena makes a batch of Nakeeshka, the official dessert of Bahavian Independence Day. Nakeeshka are cream filled pastries "ceremoniously drizzled" with lemon sauce.

Pass the Plate - Pennsylvania Style

Posted March 01, 2008
If you watch The Disney Channel as often as my family does (that's a lot) you've probably seen the little snippets of a program called Pass the Plate , hosted by Brenda Song (Who doesn't LOVE her as London Tipton on The Suite Life of Zach and Cody ?). She presents a food, facts about it and one of the ways her family enjoys it before passing the plate on to another family in a different part of… Read More

More than Cabbage and Potatoes

If you've never read the books, the story is pure fantasy interwoven into reality - the discovery of a world within our world.

Valentine's Day Dinner and a Movie

Posted February 06, 2008

My husband and I don't usually celebrate Valentine's Day together. Our wedding anniversary is just four short days later, so we save up our babysitting allotment (read: The one day the teens don't complain about watching the little ones) for that day.

When we find ourselves in the no-money-no-babysitter situation, the next best thing is putting the kids to bed and having dinner together while we watch a DVD. To be completely honest, most of the time "dinner" on those… Read More

Play Both Sides This Year

Posted January 30, 2008
Most Super Bowl parties consist of fans of one single team - everyone rooting for the same side, but what happens when you have rivals in your midst? Ply them with good food. This year, Super Bowl XLII (that's 42 for those of us with Roman Numeral deficiencies), it's the New England Patriots up against the New York Giants. I've come up with one big menu with great dishes that showcase both New England… Read More
